May has seen some fine efforts on the Unhinged Hill Top Finish with 41 Unhinged riders giving it a crack.. The top step of the men’s podium is shared by Tom Jones and Rory Barrett with rides that would have bagged the KOM if some random mutant had not roved around the South East on one afternoon in May. Daniel Veness completes the top with a fine ride at the 12th hour with GC leader, Keith Henderson, only managing 4th, albeit into a headwind.

Catherine Tarry posted a very strong time of 10:47 to win the ladies comp with Pip Jenkins using her strong form to take second. Wendy Jump completes the podium with Anna Holland a single second behind her.

Tom and Rory share a crate of beers and Catherine gets a bottle of Prosecco.

General Classification

In the GC, we have seen Rory close the Gap on Keith to 15s with the Mower falling back. Taking his place on the podium is Daniel Veness, with The Prairie Dog and The Pirate also close. Keith has been riding for a total of 32mins and 5s.  There is a lot of effort in that half an hour of riding..

June Segment – a (very) long transition from the Giro to the Tour

OK, now it is time to ramp things up…

For me, the month of June is always a funny month in the pro peleton. It seems a very long transition from the excitement of the Giro to the excitement of the Tour.  To recognise this fact we have a (very) long flat transitional stage for June.  This is the 25 mile/40km time trial course G25/89. From Marsefield down to Hailsham and back.  It will be a good test of your Hour Power.

The route information can be found here.  Now some might say that the Mower is playing to his strengths with this one. The Mower would once again retort with: “my ball, my rules”.  However, see below for the next two segments which definitely favour the whippets amongst us..

This one is to be ridden solo (and yes that includes you Pirate and Prairie Dog). So no drafting.

GC Time bonuses are on offer as follows:

  • Sub hour – 10s
  • Sub 59 – 15s
  • Sub 58 – 20s
  • Sub 57 – 25s
  • Sub 56 – 30s
  • Sub 55 – 45s
  • Sträva Top 10 – 1 min

Important Point: Please DO NOT attempt this on the morning of Sunday the 11th as it is the course for the SDW open TT.  If I had been a little more organised I would have suggested entry into this (maybe next year).  If you have already entered then please feel free to ride it as planned 😉 Only Road bike times are allowed for this competition though.  If you do do it on a TT bike, then let me know your road bike effort you do it separately.

Unhinged 6

G25/89

Safety advice: The main dangers are the fact that the route is on more major roads with plenty of roundabouts to navigate. So keep your head up as you would normally.

Prizes

We will follow up with Prizes for June shortly.

Good luck everyone..

July and August

In July we celebrate the Tour.  The Tour of Sussex that is..  I would therefore like to invite all Unhinged Cyclists to join me in the pleasure of the Prologue – a long effort up Ditching Beacon. You may all be aware of my disappointment in the Tour of Sussex parcours. Well, here I share that disappointment with you.  Enjoy..

In August we have the Queen stage.  Yes, I am sure that you have been expecting this one.. The Super Six.

Now, with these longer segments (and the Super Six in particular) we may get Garmin errors.  Don’t fret, just post your time on the Strava Club with a ‘pinky swear’ if technology fails you.  (or upgrade to an Elemnt).
