Well, what can I say.  The Powdermills Loop came alive during March.  Re-christened as The Hallowed Ground for some chain-gang action it is quickly becoming an epicentre of local riding.  In the men’s competition, 9 of the top 10 spots have been taken by Unhinged riders.  Taking the honours with a perfectly timed effort at 6pm on deadline day is MK1, cracking open the competition like the Jackhammer he is by posting a 9:54.  Completing the podium are Rory Barrett and Przemek Jersz with a 9:55. £30 Velo House cafe vouchers to MK 1. Time bonuses have been awarded to a number of GC contenders.  The KOM remained elusive once again.

Sheila Wollam takes the stage in the women’s competition with a strong 12.03 with Wendy Jupp and Rachel Jones completing the podium.  Sheila bags the £30 Velo House cafe vouchers

The GC includes relevant time bonuses.

The GC remains tight with no changes at the top with Keith Henderson and The Mower still close. Rory Barrett moves up to 3rd place despite a very strong solo effort from Daniel Veness who remains a threat.

Wendy Jupp is last woman standing in the GC. All eyes are now on Wendy to see if she can stick with it for the rest of the year.

If you are out of contention for the GC, worry not as there will be lots to play for in the monthly segments.

Handicap Competition

OK here are the results of the Handicap Comp.  Apologies if I have missed anyone who has sent me through PBs to work out your % as I have lost track a little bit on this. Please let me know if you are missing and I will sort it.  If you are not on there at all it may be because you did not complete either of segments 1 or 2 which was a pre-requisitite for getting a handicap %.

The winner of the handicap goes to Keiran Fitzpatrick, who narrowly edged out Carlos Martinez for the case of beers.  Scott Sergeant was also in the mix in third place.  Well done Keiran.

April Segment(s) – Something for Everyone

We are doing something a little different for April.  We have two segments to be completed in the same ride!  Your best times times will be added to get the overall time for April.  You can do them in whatever order you like and you can take some recovery in between (but you need to keep riding – i.e. no going home for a sleep/bath/massage/or anything else that might help you).  They should also be completed solo – so no drafting allowed.  You could imagine both of thes segments in a Belgium classic – a short steep Berg of a climb and a gentle downhill power sector.  Both segments are conveniently located to each other and, if I am being completely honest, to my house.  (My ball my rules again!).

I appreciate that, if you have a few goes at these, you may get different monthly PBs from separate rides.  That is fine but I am trusting you all to give it full beans on both efforts each time you ride them.

The Beacon climb

The first segment is The Beacon climb. A 0.4km beauty averaging 11% with the KOM currently held by our very own MK1 and Catherine Tarry holding the QOM.

The Beacon

The Beacon

Safety advice: The climb is a little narrow so keep your head up and your ears open for cars coming the other way.

The Hare to George

Next up we have the Hare to George which is a fast 2km sprint section averaging -1%.  Again MK 1 and Catherine Tarry are our leading Unhinged riders. Personally, I am not happy about that KOM standing since 2013 and would like to see matters rectified.

Safety advice:  Look out for parked cars towards the end of this segment and make sure you scrub off your speed pretty quickly (yet safely) as the junction will be quickly upon you.

Prizes

For April, Olly has kindly donated the following:

For the mens GC – Crate of Kwaremont Beer.  For Women’s GC 2 bottles of Prosecco
Handicap Winner – £30 Cafe Voucher.
Good luck everyone..
